Memory Foam Density
Why you should avoid buying low density memory foam?
Key points:
- Memory foam density is directly related to comfort.
- Cheaper lower density memory foam will not last as long.
- Make sure you invest in a good quality high density memory foam.
This is another important factor you must consider before you invest in a memory foam mattress. The density of the memory foam is directly linked to both your comfort and how long a mattress will last. Don't get caught out buying a low density memory foam mattress that is being sold as "Good Quality" memory foam.
Here are the facts about memory foam density - Most foam is constructed out of billions of tiny air bubbles tightly packed together. With memory foam, these bubbles are open giving the air that would normally be trapped inside and resist your weight a chance to escape. This allows the foam to completely collapse under weight and shape to the contours of the body, giving its absorbent quality. The density of memory foam is therefore important as an indicator of quality and in ensuring that the mattress provides suitable support in order to bear the load, and in preventing what's known as 'bottoming out' to ensure that the foam really does help to guarantee a better night's sleep.
Density is also an important factor when considering the durability of the memory foam. More compact memory foam lasts considerably longer than less dense foam, and assures a more even distribution of weight from the support within.
When buying memory foam it is good to keep in mind that the product is supposed to improve support and reduce pressure points when sleeping, which is not guaranteed with memory foam of a lower density.
Poorer quality foams are also subject to less strict manufacturing processes which enable companies to sell the memory foam for a cheaper price. Although this may seem attractive at first, mattresses made from this lower density foam will not last as long. Denser memory foam is in general of a higher quality, and is guaranteed to have a longer lifespan.
When buying memory foam it is best to stay well clear of cheaper, less compact foams. The simple fact of the matter is that lower density means lower quality, and lower quality means lower value for money. When looking for memory foam, make sure of the density and subsequent support offered before you buy.
